Several events were organised at a number of Viharayas on Monday in view of the birthday of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.The President participated in religious observances held at the Hunupitiya Gangarama Viharaya on Monday, where members of the Maha Sangha chanted Pirith invoking blessings on the President.
The President also participated in a Pooja ceremony held at the Sambuddhaloka Viharaya in Colombo. Members of the Maha Sangha including the Chief Prelate of the Sri Lanka Ramanya Sect, the Most Venerable Napane Pemasiri Thera, were in attendance.
The President also participated in a Bodhi Pooja held at the Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya. Religious observances were conducted by members of the Maha Sangha including the Chief incumbent of the Viharaya Professor Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarathana Thera. The President then attended special religious observances held at the Vidyalankara Pirivena in Peliyagoda.The Head of the Pirivena, Dr. Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera and Prof. Ven. Kumburugamuwe Vajira Thera and other members of the Maha Sangha invoked blessings on the President at this event.
The President also participated in religious observances at the Vishnu Devalaya in Kelaniya following which he had a cordial conversation with members of the public who had gathered there.
