The Ministry of Finance and Planning announced that the import taxes which were imposed on potatoes, big onions and red onions will be reduced with effect from Sunday.
Issuing a communique the ministry said that the import tax of a kilogramme of potatoes will be reduced to Rs.30 from an initial price of Rs. 40, while import taxes on big onions and red onions will be reduced to Rs. 25 rupees and Rs.10 rupees from initial prices of Rs. 35 rupees and Rs.15 rupees respectively.
The import taxes of these vegetables have been reduced following an instruction by the president to the treasury, in order to provide the public with reasonable prices as the festive season is drawing closer and as the harvest of big onions and red onions are being delivered to markets for the year 2013.
