The heads of states of Malawi and Barbados are scheduled to arrive in the country to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
 
Due to their arrival, the police said that several roads including the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway will be closed from 12.45 to 2 p.m.on Monday afternoon.
 
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that accordingly, the road from Peliyagoda to the Cemetery Roundabout, Borella on the Baseline Road – and from there up to the Bambalapitiya Junction and Bauddhaloka Mawatha will be closed during this time period.
 
Apart from this, Galle Road from the Bambalapitiya Roundabout to the Old Parliament Roundabout will also be closed.

“Around 5000 police officers have been deployed for traffic duty in view of the Common wealth Heads of Government Meeting. We have deployed police officers in Katunayake, Galle, Kandy, Matala, Hambanthota, apart from this another 15,000 police officers have been deployed for other duties. Accordingly a total of 15,000 officers will be in duty. We request public to adhere to the instructions of traffic police officers at all times.”
 
Police media spokesperson added that most number of heads of states are scheduled to arrive on the 14th and added that they anticipate a severe traffic congestion on that day.
