Thirty people were injured in an accident involving a bus at the Nawela junction on the Welimada-Haputale Road. Several of the injured persons were discharged after receiving treatment at the Welimada Hospital on Friday evening.
The injured were members of the groom’s party, who were on their way to a wedding at the Sangamalai Estate in Haputale.
Our reporter says that the accident occurred when the driver lost control of the speeding bus and crashed into a telephone post before crashing into an earth embankment. The injured were admitted to the Welimada Hospital from where nine people were transferred to the Badulla General Hospital.
