COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka police say they will provide pistols to Members of Parliament who have submitted requests, after thoroughly reviewing the relevant criminal analysis reports.

Authorities confirmed that these reports are currently under detailed examination to determine the appropriateness of providing firearms.

More than 20 opposition MPs have submitted formal letters to the Secretary General of Parliament, requesting pistols to enhance their personal security.

A senior parliamentary official noted that these requests have been forwarded to the Ministry of Defence for further consideration.

The police also confirmed that no MPs from the ruling party have made requests for firearms.
