COLOMBO (News 1st)l More than 200 senior citizens have lodged complaints seeking financial maintenance from their children through a dedicated WhatsApp hotline introduced by the National Secretariat for Elders.
Director Chathura Mihidum said the hotline, 0707 89 88 89, connects elderly individuals to the Secretariat’s Relief and Support Service, providing a convenient channel for assistance.
To address these complaints, new maintenance boards have been established, ensuring cases are reviewed promptly.
Mihidum further revealed plans to enable online participation for complainants through Divisional Secretariat offices, making the process more accessible and efficient.
The initiative comes amid growing concerns about the welfare of Sri Lanka’s aging population, many of whom face financial and social challenges.
