"President informed the Cabinet the Presidential Election will be held" - Mahinda Amaraweera

Colombo (News 1st): Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said President Ranil Wickremesinghe informed the Cabinet that the Presidential Election will definitely be held this year, as funds were only allocated for a Presidential Poll through the 2024 Budget. 

Expressing views on the News1st Morning on TV1 programme Minister Amaraweera said the President informed the Cabinet and government MPs that funds can only be released for a Presidential Poll this year. 

Minister Amaraweera said President Wickremesinghe assured that despite various rumors regarding Parliamentary elections and other polls, any other election can only be held after allocating funds through the next Budget.

The Minister said therefore the President requested everyone to prepare for the upcoming Presidential Election.
