Sri Lanka appoints team to settle X-Press Pearl lawsuit

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has decided to appoint a special team led by the Attorney General to settle the lawsuit filed in Singapore to secure a compensation claim for the damages caused to the Sea of Sri Lanka from the X-Press Pearl maritime disaster.

Sri Lanka's Cabinet of Ministers on Monday (5) had approved the appointment of the committee.

A Senior Government Minister said that the team will head to Singapore and engage in talks with the shipping company and the insurance company, and thereafter launch discussions to reach a settlement.

The team will be led by the Attorney General, and will include officers from the Attorney General's Department, Secretary of Urban Development and Housing, Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, an Additional Secretary to the President, and the Legal Consultant from Australia.
