Navy continues with flood relief efforts following heavy rains

Following the flash floods triggered by heavy downpour reported in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed 05 relief teams for flood relief efforts in Bulathsinhala, Baduraliya, Lathpandura and Walallawita in the Kalutara district and Kalawana in the Rathnapura district. Accordingly, the Navy relief teams were continuing their rescue and relief services in full swing as of this morning (06th June 2023).

In Baduraliya, the Navy was pressed into action to transfer a group of Buddhist monks from Gangarama Viharaya, Baduraliya to a religious matter and also safely carried a group of school children, affected by floods. Moreover, the Navy relief teams made necessary preparations to provide assistance and relief to the local residents, including school children, who were affected by the flood in the Bulathsinghala area, enabling them to resume their daily activities.

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the Navy has kept ready additional 23 relief teams in the Western Naval Command and 10 relief teams in the Southern Naval Command, to be mobilized at will.
