Unions to hold talks over tax issue

Professionals Trade Union Collective to convene on Thursday (30)

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Professionals Trade Union Collective will convene once again on Thursday (30).

The meeting is taking place against a backdrop in which they have not received an opportunity for a discussion with the President regarding the government's tax policy.

Media spokesperson of the Government Medical Officer's Association (GMOA) Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe invited all union leaders to join the discussion on Thursday (30).

The Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) said they will join other trade unions and intensify trade union action from the 3rd of April if favourable solutions are not provided for their demands.

Representatives of 47 trade unions of many sectors including health, universities, banking, and engineering commenced the trade union action against the tax amendment including the PAYE tax for persons earning an income of over Rs.100,000.
