Imported eggs given green light

COLOMBO (News 1st); Eggs imported from India have been approved by the Department of Animal Production and Health.

Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Gunadasa Samarasinghe said that the relevant report will be forwarded to the Ministry of Trade today.

Minister of Trade Nalin Fernando said that the imported eggs have also received the approval of the Medical Research Institute.

He added that it has been decided to distribute eggs to related industries at a price of Rs.35/- per egg.

In order to control the price of eggs in the market and as a remedy for the shortage of eggs, the Ministry of Trade recently took steps to import 02 million eggs from India to Sri Lanka.
