Colombo (News 1st) - Chasing a modest target of 216 runs, India won the 2nd ODI against Sri Lanka by 4 wickets and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 match series at the Eden Gardens.

Although Sri Lanka's bowlers had the hosts against the ropes with the score card on 86/4 at one stage, India's batting proved too strong. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya put on 75 runs for the fifth wicket and India ended on 219/6 in 43.2 overs.

Rahul made 64 off 103; Pandya made 36 off 53. Chamika Karunaratne and Lahiru Kumara took 2 wickets each.

Earlier after winning the toss and opting to bat, Sri Lanka were in the drivers seat on 102/1 in the 17th over. But they went on to lose 6 wickets for 50 runs. The visitors were bowled out for just 215 in the 40th over. Debutant Nuwanidu Fernando top scored with 50 runs off 63 balls.

Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj did the damage for the home side, picking up 3 wickets each.

The final match of the series is played on Sunday (15).
