Sri Lanka arrests US national for possession of 9mm rounds

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lankan authorities have arrested a US national for the possession of a 9mm bullet magazine, and 10 live 9mm rounds.

Sri Lanka Police said that the ammunition was discovered in the suspects' luggage.

The 38-year-old man was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport when attempting to leave Sri Lanka. He had entered the country on the 7th of December.

Police said the suspect was licensed to possess a firearm in the United States of America, however, concerns have arisen as to why he was carrying the ammunition with him.

The suspect will be produced to the Negombo Magistrate's Court.
