Beliatte PS Chairman & brother remanded for theft

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Chairman of the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha Cyril Munasinghe was arrested and remanded to the 3rd of January, for stealing GI pipes that were brought for a community water project.

The Chairman of the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha Cyril Munasinghe is also the Chairman of the Maha-Heela Perakum Community Water Project that comes under the purview of the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha.

He was arrested after locals filed a complaint with the police stating that GI pipes that were brought for the water project were being prepared to be moved to another location, under the cover of darkness.

The Chairman of the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha Cyril Munasinghe was arrested, and later remanded to the 3rd of January 2023 by the Acting Magistrate of Tangalle Ranjith Gunasekera. The local politicians' brother was also arrested and remanded for the same crime.
