Railways to launch spot checks for tickets

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Railways has taken steps to carry out spot checks to detain and fine those who use the service without obtaining tickets.

The Deputy General Manager of Railways E.S Polwattage said information has come to light over multiple incidents of people taking a free ride on trains, and several raids were carried out at the Colombo Fort railway station on Tuesday (6).
 
He said that 124 passengers who did not have tickets were detained and 78 of them were fined.

He added that another 46 people were released after posting bail.
