Food inflation spikes in August 2022

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Food Inflation increases to 84.6% in August 2022 from 82.5% in July 2022, reported the National Consumer Price Index on Wednesday (21).

The overall rate of inflation measured by NCPI on a year-on-year basis is 70.2% in August 2022, and inflation calculated for July 2022 was 66.7%.

The Department of Census and Statistics noted that the reported inflation for the monht of August 2022 was mainly due to the high price levels in both food and non-food groups.
