COLOMBO (News 1st) - Presidential Advisor on National Food Security, Dr. Suren Batagoda, says that data shows that the amount of food consumed by Sri Lankans has reduced by about 60% due to the prevailing food shortage in the country.

Participating in the multi-sectoral joint mechanism implementation program on food security and nutrition, Dr. Suren Batagoda made this statement during a discussion held with district secretaries and divisional secretaries in conjunction with the program.

Dr. Batagoda has instructed officials to collect information in a door-to-door approach, and to collect the necessary data in this regard immediately and if necessary, online.

He further stated that the President has issued instructions stating that no one in Sri Lanka should go hungry, and as a solution, plans have been made to provide food to individuals who do not have access to adequate amounts of food through the community kitchen program.

Dr. Batagoda added that Government officials are partly responsible for the food crisis in the country.
