Warrant on ex-DIG's wife for SLIIT student assault

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo High Court ordered to issue warrants for the arrest of Shayamali Gunawardena, the wife of the Former DIG Vass Gunawardena, and Sub-Inspector Indika Pushpakumara.

The order was issued by Colombo High Court Judge Amal Ranaraja as the two suspects failed to appear in court on Friday (16).

Shayamali Gunawardena is the sixth suspect in the case filed over the abduction and brutal assault on Nipuna Ramanayake, a student at the time who was studying at Sri Lanka Institute of Information and Technology (SLIIT), in August 2009.

When the case was called up on Friday (16) Former DIG Vass Gunawardena, his son Ravindu Gunawardena and the other suspects were present in court.

As  Shayamali Gunawardena, the wife of the Former DIG Vass Gunawardena, and Sub-Inspector Indika Pushpakumara failed to appear in court, the matter was postponed to the 28th of November, and warrants were issued for their arrest.
