Kurunegala MC admits unauthorized constructions in vicinity

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Kurunegala Municipal Council and several other Government institutions on Tuesday (13) admitted that there are many unauthorized constructions in the vicinity of Kurunegala town.

The Municipal Council and other Government bodies appeared at the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka today (13) regarding the recent incident of the unfortunate death of a child who fell into a storm drain.

The Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission said that the Municipal Commissioner, the Chairman of the Urban Development Authority, the Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Agricultural Development and the Kurunegala Police HQI were summoned for the relevant investigation.

The Human Rights Commission stated that although these discoveries with regard to unauthorized constructions were made before, no action has been taken regarding the relevant constructions.

Moreover, It has been revealed at the HRCSL that a problematic situation has arisen for the respective institutions regarding the Governance of select areas.

The HRCSL added that among the summoned officials, only the Kurunegala Police HQI appeared in-person,  while other personnel chose to send an authorized representative on behalf of them.
