Kurunegala Tragedy: Human Rights Probe underway

COLOMBO (News 1st); An investigation by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) is currently underway on the death of 14-year-old Sajitha Gunaratne, who died after being trapped in a drain when returning home from school.

HRCSL personnel inspected the accident site on Wenesday (7) and have obtained statements related to the investigation.

A major rescue operation got underway in Wehera, Kurunegala on 5th of September after the 14-year-old school boy was found trapped in a drain. Unfortunately, the young boy died upon admission to hospital.

The villagers pointed out that there are several unsafe areas on the road.

The last rites of Sajitha were also carried out this afternoon (7).
