LRH experiencing shortage of 30 medicines

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital is currently experiencing a shortage of about 30 medicines, Deputy Health Director, Dr. G. Wijesuriya said.

Acknowledging that the shortage of medicines at many hospitals has not been resolved yet, Dr. Wijesuriya said that many hospitals have a shortage of 20-30 essential medicines.

He mentioned that the medicine shortage is expected to be resolved with the help of donors and other well wishers, who are able to procure the medicine for the hospital.

However, Dr. Wijesuriya said that no procedure or surgery have been postponed or cancelled due to the medicine shortage, and health personnel continue to perform procedures with the existing stocks of medicine and alternatives.

He said that it is expected that the shortage of medicines will be avoided by the next month, in consideration of the medicine stock which is yet to be received under the Indian Line of Credit and under World Bank aid.
