1,000 MT of Urea from FAO within two weeks

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka will receive 1000 metric tons of Urea fertilizer from the World Food and Agriculture Organization, as its first stock, in the next two weeks.

The World Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has agreed to provide 375,000 bags of Urea fertilizer to low-income farming families in Sri Lanka for paddy cultivation.

This stock of urea fertilizer is to be given free of charge to 375,000 farmers who have less than one acre paddy at 50 kg per farmer.

This donation of Urea fertilizer will be provided to farmers who cultivate less than 1 acre of paddy fields. 

The Ministry of Agriculture said that the Paddy Marketing Board purchased 5,007 MT of Paddy from local farmers over a period of 9 days.

The Paddy Marketing Board commenced purchasing paddy from the Yala Harvesting Season on the 18th of August 2022.
