There are hundreds of Sri Lankan families who are confined to their villages, with no bridge to link them with major towns and cities.

On Friday (26) Gammadda was able to end the misery of one village, with a bridge linking the Welladeniya Village in Kegalle with the major roadway.

Welladeniya is a remote village in the Dehi-Owita Divisional Secretariat in the Kegalle District with Picturesque surroundings.

But, this village has one serious problem and it is echoed in the voices of the children living there.

"After school, we come across with the greatest difficulty. We have to take off our shoes."

In the midst of all the difficulties, Gammadda made its way to this village that is surrounded by nature and its beauty.

The sole purpose of this visit was to construct a bridge and the misery faced by the people of this village.

The more than 100 families living in this village depend on the Rubber Plantations to survive.

When it rains, the waterway that runs across the village turns into a gushing river forcing these people to suspend their daily plans, and the absence of a bridge makes it even more difficult.

"Sometimes it takes a long time to come home after school. When the waterway overflows, our parents use ropes to get us across," said a young schoolgirl.

When it rains, the people of this village are confined to their homes due to rising water levels.

This situation also forces children to stay at home without attending school

The only permanent solution to this issue is a bridge, and today Gammadda launched a project for the construction of one.

This project is financially supported by Mrs. Kushlani Amarasuriya, and the launch was also attended by Chevaan Daniel of the Gammadda Movement.

These villagers will be able to cross the waterway and reach their destinations without any hesitation, soon.
