Suspect arrested for stockpiling over 100l Petrol

COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect has been arrested for illegally accumulating fuel without a license in Naiwala, ​Veyangoda.

Police stated that they found 71 liters of diesel and 105 liters of petrol in his possession at the time of arrest.

Meanwhile, fuel is currently being issued in accordance with the National Fuel Pass (or QR system) and the vehicle licence plate system throughout the island today.

Accordingly, fuel will be issued today for vehicles with 6, 7, 8 and 9 as the last number of their vehicle registration number.

However, fuel will be issued only via the QR code according to the National Fuel Pass from 01st of August.

The Ministry of Energy stated that 4,604,749 vehicles have registered with the National Fuel Permit System.

The ministry said that currently 931 petrol stations across the island have adopted the system.

The Ministry of Energy said that by yesterday, 531 filling stations actively used the national fuel permit system.
