Public Security Ministry to take legal action over protestors occupying Galle Face area

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Public Security says that legal action will be taken against those who are still occupying the protest site at Galle Face.

The Secretary to the Ministry, S. Hettiarachchi stated that legal action will be taken against them over charges of unauthorized construction and unauthorized occupation of the respective lands owned by Government agencies including the Urban Development Authority and the Ports Authority.

The secretary added that the institutions too have been notified in this regard.

Security camera footage and video footage of the relevant areas will be used to identify those who are occupying the premises.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security stated that steps will be taken to monitor the telephone conversations and bank accounts of those who are currently in custody in connection with the 'Aragalaya'; the people's struggle.

Ministry Secretary Mr. S. Hettiarachchi mentioned that investigations are currently being carried out in the identified locations including the President's Secretariat by several teams including Police and Criminal Investigation Department.
