Indian Urea Fertilizer to reach SL today (9)

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Agriculture says that the Urea fertilizer shipment from the Indian Government is scheduled to reach Sri Lanka today (9).

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that the vessel carrying 40,000 MT of urea fertilizer will reach the country as Phase One under the Indian Credit Line from a total consingment of 65,000 MT of Urea Fertilizer, and the remaining 25,000 MT will be received under Phase Two.

Also, Minister Amaraweera said that 30,000 MT of Urea from 65,000 MT will be used for paddy cultivation, 20,000 MT of Urea will be given for maize cultivation and the remaining stock of fertilizer has been allocated for tea cultivation as per the request of the Ministry of Plantation Industries.

The minister further said that the distribution of this fertilizer will be commence this afternoon.

In the meantime, the Minister pointed out that arrangements have been made to transfer the stock of urea fertilizer to all the district secretaries to supervise the distribution of the stock to each district.
