Rice stocks will last until September - Amaraweera

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said that the current stock of rice in the country will be sufficient for consumption until next September.

The Minister stated that after that rice should be imported for consumption in the country.

The Minister states that more than 700,000 MT of rice needs to be imported for consumption.

Sri Lanka needs 2.4 Million MT of rice per year, he added.
