COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Trades said that the current gas shortage will be rectified by the end of May 2022.

Minister Shehan Semasinghe stated that under the Indian Line of Credit, the necessary financial facilities will be provided to Litro as well as Laugfs.

The Minister said that arrangements have been made to select several more suppliers with the intervention of the Government of India.

The World Bank will also provide the US $90 Million to purchase gas.

Minister Shehan Semasinghe said that the money will be distributed according to the market size of Litro and Laugfs.

Meanwhile, Litro stated that in the future, priority will be given to the urban community in the gas distribution process. That's because 25% of gas consumers live in urban cities.

Previously, 60,000 gas cylinders were supplied to the market daily, but in the future, that number will have to be reduced to 30,000, Litro said.

Meantime, the vessel carrying 3,900 MT of gas reached the country, and the distribution process began on Thursday (28).
