Sri Lanka makes payment for Diesel shipment

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Energy said that a payment was made to the vessel owned by the Singapore company Vitol which had been anchored in the international waters for 16 days.

The ship was carrying a shipment of 37,500 MT of Diesel, and Sri Lanka was to pay USD 52 Million for that.

The Ministry said that approximately Rs. 92 Million was paid as demurrages for the 16-days that the vessel remain stationary in international waters.

The Ministry further said that the stock of diesel will be unloaded on Friday (8) afternoon.

Meanwhile, two other fuel tankers are currently anchored in international waters due to non-payment for the letters of credit.

The Ministry of Energy said that a vessel with 30,000 MT of furnace oil required for power plants has also reached Sri Lankan waters.

The Ministry further said that a vessel carrying 35,000 MT of jet fuel is scheduled to arrive on the 15th of April.
