COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Prof. Charitha Herath told Parliament that there needs to be more emphasis on the Intellectual Property Act (IPA) and the Copyright Law in the country.

A legal framework for the Copyright Law and social media should be formulated to enable the youth to commence businesses on the digital sphere with their creative intelligence, said Prof. Charitha Herath in Parliament on Tuesday (8).

He said this would greatly benefit the youth in the rural communities to use digital platforms for business development.

“Independence is of no use if we could not have a strong legal framework on intellectual property and rights on Intellectual Property,” the MP said.
