COLOMBO (News 1st): The required stocks of Diesel for power generation at the Kelanitissa Power Plant Complex, are yet to be supplied, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said on Monday (Feb. 14). The Kelanitissa Power Plant, which shut down completely on the 2nd of February, is yet to be reactivated, Andrew Nawamani, the CEB Spokesperson and Additional General Manager told News 1st. According to Nawamani, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has agreed to supply the required stocks of fuel for power generation at the Sapugaskanda Power Station on Tuesday (15) as well. The CEB pointed out that 25% of the electricity requirement is generated through hydropower at present. However, the capacity of water at the Castlereigh Reservoir for hydropower generation is only sufficient to last another week, while the capacity of water at the Samanalawewa Reservoir, is only sufficient to last another month, the CEB further noted. The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) recently informed that the Ceylon Electricity Board is likely to be granted permission to impose daily power cuts for 03-months, as requested.
