Opposition Leader hopeful on Ranjan's pardon

COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa says he is hopeful that the former MP Ranjan Ramanayake will be granted pardon on Independence Day Friday (04).

The Opposition Leader made these remarks when he visited former MP Ranjan Ramanayake at prison on Thursday (03).

Premadasa, speaking to media, stated that while he believes that former MP Ramanayake will be granted complete freedom on Friday (04), while he is hopeful that all the rights of an ordinary citizen will be restored upon MP Ramanayake upon his release.

Furthermore, Opposition Leader Premadasa requested the President to come forth and include former MP Ramanayake in a list of persons who are due to receive the pardon on Independence Day as he is a person who remained committed to the welfare of the people in the past.

"If he is not granted pardon, we will engage in our struggle for democracy and continue the struggle to protect him," Premadasa added.
