COLOMBO (News 1st): The rate of COVID-19 infections among expectant mothers has risen, with around 500 expectant mothers currently receiving in-house treatment, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday (Feb. 2). "The rate of expectant mothers infected with COVID-19 and receiving in-house treatment has risen sharply with the spread of the Omicron variant of the virus," Dr. Chithramalee De Silva, the Director of Maternal and Child Health at the Family Health Bureau told News 1st. She urged expectant mothers to receive the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible and remain cautious. According to Dr. Chithramalee De Silva, it is recommended that expectant mothers receive the booster dose, 03-months after receiving the last vaccine dose. She further informed expectant mothers to avoid non-essential travel and crowded places.
