Human - Elephant conflict grows; Polonnaruwa villagers fear of wild elephant attacks

COLOMBO (News 1st); A house in Polonnaruwa was destroyed after it was attacked by a Wild Elephant on Tuesday (1).

According to the villagers, this Wild Elephant was roaming around the village for 3 days and on Tuesday (1) night destroyed another house.

The villagers stated that they have been demanding solutions for 39 years from the authorities. However, their pleas only fell on deaf ears.

The village of Ihalalle, which is the birthplace of 400 families is at the brink of being abandoned due to the threat of wild elephants.

Wild Elephants storm the village and destroy crops, property, and even maul to death people.

The villagers stated that they can not even have a good night's sleep because of this Wild Elephant problem.
