COLOMBO (News 1st); The action taken by the Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila, with regard to the Trincomalee oil tank farm deal is being severely criticized in comparison with his conduct during the American New Fortress Energy Inc, deal.

On Monday (10) several trade unions affiliated with the Samagi Jana Balawega staged a protest near the tank farm.

SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe, speaking to the media stated that all the tanks should have belonged back to Sri Lanka in 2038, in about 16 years.

However, with the deal signed with the Indian Oil Company, 75 of the tanks have been given to India for 50 years from 2022 to 2072.

Pointing out that it would have cost Sri Lanka about $ 50 million to repair 99 of these tanks, which is 10 billion, the MP stated that it is a small amount in comparison with the expenses wasted by the Government

The Government harks about patriotism and they sell the local resources of our country wearing national attire.

The MP stated.

An agreement was signed in Colombo recently to lease 14 tanks of the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex to the Indian Oil Company, 24 tanks to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, and another 61 to a joint venture company for 50 years.
