18 reservoirs & tanks currently spilling over

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Irrigation says that 18 reservoirs and tanks in the country are currently spilling over.

The Director of Hydrology at the Irrigation Department, D. Abeysiriwardena stated that many tanks in the Polonnaruwa District have reached their maximum spill levels as well.

He said eight spill gates of the Parakrama Samudhraya have been opened, adding that two spill gates of the Kawudulla reservoir will also be opened this evening.

According to Abeysiriwardena, two spill gates of the Naaachchaduwa Reservoir in the Anuradhapura District have also been opened, while six spill gates of the Rajanganaya resevoir are also open.

He noted that five spill gates of the Yaan-oya will also remain open.
