Govt will never allow for people to starve: Bandula

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Trade Dr. Bandula Gunawardena says the Government will never allow the people to starve, given the prevailing situation in the country.

Speaking at the opening of the Hambegamuwa Sathosa on Thursday (30), Minister Gunawardena emphasized that the Governmen will never let the people in this country to starve, as the Ministers would share the responsibility among themselves to ensure that people are not starving.

Whilst pointing out that the local Rice mafia attempted to hike commodity prices when importation was halted, the Trade Minister noted that the Government will ensure the prices of Rice such as Nadu will remain below Rs. 100 throughout 2022, by importing Rice.

"There are no two solutions to the Cost of Living and the Prices of Goods. The only solution for the increasing Prices of Goods is to increase the rate of production." he added.
