COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva says the cabinet of ministers will discuss matters regarding approaching the International Monetary Fund for financial aid.

Addressing an event in Kotte on Sunday (26), the Senior Deputy Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party stated that the CBSL Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal and the Secretary to the Treasury and Ministry of Finance, S.R. Attygalle will be present at the Cabinet meeting which is due to be held on Monday (27) to enunciate further on the topic.

The two officials will be answering questions as to whether or not the country is going to the IMF, and the reason to not go to the IMF.

Speaking further, the Minister stated that a collaborative decision will be taken at the next Cabinet Meeting, as the Finance minister has a responsibility to convey his views to the Cabinet.

We will make a decision based on his feedback, Minister de Silva said.

The Minister also stated that the reports on the Finance Minister being on a strict stance to not to go to the IMF are not entirely true, as many individuals go to the IMF to gain financial aid.

The real issue is between two ideologies on whether or not to go to the IMF, and this will be clarified at the next Cabinet meeting, he added.
