CEB Chairman warns of dire action as TUs ponder industrial action

OLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board has warned that if CEB workers are to engage in a strike on Wednesday (3) and Thursday (4), it would be considered as a serious breach of discipline at the CEB.

Ceylon Electricity Board Chairman C. Fernando said in the event of any breakdown on the 3rd and 4th of November, the CEB will not refrain from rectifying the situation.

"As CEB Chairman I do not expect any CEB worker to engage in any anti-social activity," he added, noting that those who do engage in such activities will have to be responsible for what follows.

He also noted that if CEB workers who are obtaining their salaries decide not to report to work, it would be considered as they have vacated their positions.

A massive protest is planned by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) United Trade Union (TU) Alliance for tomorrow (03).

The CEB United Trade Union Alliance will stage a protest to urge the Government to immediately suspend the agreement with New Fortress Energy Inc over the transfer of 40% of shares of the Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya.

Trade Unions representing the CPC, CEB and Ports said that its members will stage a massive protest at 12 noon on Wednesday (3) against the LNG deal.

A spokesperson for the movement, Ananda Palitha told reporters said at 12 noon workers from all over the country will converge in Colombo.

He said the government cannot suppress these move by issuing extraordinary gazettes.
