Public must enjoy tax reduction benefits: AKD

COLOMBO (News1st): The benefit of tax reductions must be passed onto the public, opposition lawmaker Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said. "The government has lost Rs 15.9 billion in tax revenue because of the reduction in the sugar tax," the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader noted. He pointed out that it was Sajad Mowzoon, with links to the Pyramid Wilmar company, who benefitted through the tax reduction. "Why did they reduce the special commodity levy on sugar to 25 cents? Doesn't this seem like an unusual move?" Dissanayake said. "The close associates of the government were the only ones who benefitted from the entire transaction".
