23-year-old carjacker arrested for stealing sedan used by a monk

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested a car-jacking suspect for stealing the car used by the Chief Incumbent of the International Vipassana Meditation Centre, Venerable Ududumbara Kashyapa Thero. 

The car was stolen at around 07:15 PM on Tuesday (09) when parked opposite Bank of Ceylon in Thalawathugoda and within half an hour police managed to trace the car and arrest the suspect.

 

The car was located down 

Gramodaya

 Mawatha in 

Kalalgoda

 using the GPS vehicle tracking device, and when located the number plates were removed and attempts were being made by the suspect to remove another unit in the car to disable the GSP tracker.

 

The carjacker was identified as a 23-year-old from 

Vidyala

 Junction in 

Kalagoda

 and will be produced in court.

 

The car was valued at Rs. 07 Million, said Sri Lanka Police.
