Activists claim racket in operation to reduce PCR testing at MRI

Colombo (News 1st); Activists allege the production of test tubes used to place virus samples produced at low cost by the Medical Research Institute Sri Lanka has been suspended and an attempt is being made to import test tubes at a higher cost.
Venerable Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero, the patron of the Government Medical Officers Forum said only the Medical Research Institute Sri Lanka issue correct results of PCR tests, while errors are reported from the tests carried out by private laboratories.
The Venerable Thero alleged MRI had reduced its testing pacing the way for private laboratories to increase testing adding this is operating as a racket.
Rukshan Bellana, the President of the Government Medical Officers Forum said the incumbent health secretary is operating in a manner that favors a particular trade union.
He said the conduct of the Ministry of Health is a total travesty.
