COLOMBO (News1st): Wasana, the eldest daughter, and Madusha the youngest of a family once used to drift off to sleep, with the danger posed by a river in Dambulla engulfing their hearts. This was all because they were not fortunate enough to have a roof above their heads. For a very long time, this small family spent their lives under the bridge in Dambulla, while being strangers to the bare necessities of life. Thanks to a group of benevolent donors including Kumar Sangakkara who extended a helping hand through Gammadda, this family now enjoys a new lease of life. The house that was built with love and compassion was finally vested with the family today, fulfilling what had been confined to a dream. "I didn't imagine we would receive a large house. We were expecting for a place to build ourselves a shack. We didn't even dream of receiving a house with two rooms, a kitchen and a living room," the mother of two said. A team of officials including the Dambulla divisional secretary also extended their support towards this project, with the hope of fulfilling the aspirations of this family. The occupants of this newly-built house who were once homeless, are now proud bearers of a residential address. This project also opens the doors for the future of these children that would allow them to thrive with education. For the people of this country, their hope is for a brighter future for Wasana and Madusha. The value of these tears flowing through the eyes of this family due to happiness can never be measured.
