COLOMBO (News 1st): The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology issued a Red Alert Warning for Heavy Rain and Strong Winds, valid until 9:00 pm tonight (Sep 09).
“Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western provinces and Galle, Matara and Kandy districts will continue to receive over 150 mm of rain,” the Department of Meteorology said.
The warning notes, that showery condition over the South-Western part and the North-Western province of the island, is expected to enhance to some extent from tonight.
Meanwhile, according to the Met Department the highest rainfall of 121 mm, from 8:30 am yesterday (Sep 08) till 4:30 am (Sep 09), was recorded from Colombo; strong winds are also experienced in Colombo.
Kahaduwa in Galle has received a rainfall of 112 mm, while 105 mm of rain was recorded in Ethkandura, Galle.
