Prime Minister thanks voters for election victory

COLOMBO (News1st): Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has thanked the people of his Kurunegala electorate for his victory at the parliamentary poll. Rajapaksa obtained 527,364 votes at last Wednesday's poll, the highest ever votes received by a parliamentary election candidate in Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister thanked all those who voted for him at the parliamentary election amidst a tough period in his political career. He stressed that the pledge to resolve the problems of the Kurunegala people will be fulfilled and not limited to mere promises on the political platform. Rajapaksa pointed out that the responsibility of creating a peaceful and prosperous country as expected by the people now lies before him.
