Colombo (News 1st); The Court of Appeal today issued an interim injunction preventing the enforcement of the Warrants issued by the Fort Magistrate’s Court for the arrest of Ex-Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 06 others.
The order was made after the Court of Appeal considered the petitions filed with the court seeking a writ order be issued preventing the enforcement of the Warrants issued by the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The Three-Judge Bench of the Court of Appeal issued the order preventing the enforcement of the warrant until the petitions are examined and concluded.
The matter was called up in the presence of Court of Appeal President Justice A. H. M. B. Nawaz and Justices Shiran Gunaratne and Sobitha Rajakaruna.
The warrants were issued by the court on the 06th of March against 10 suspects including Ex-Minister Ravi Karunanayake with regard to a complaint filed under several charges including the criminal misappropriation of 51.98 Billion Rupees in Central Bank bond auctions on March 29 and March 31, 2016.
Court of Appeal said today’s order will not have any impact on the investigations which are on-going with regard to the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam adding the suspects must appear at the Criminal Investigations Department and co-operate with the investigation, whenever they are summoned to the CID.
