Police crackdown on criminal activity - 08 arrested & over 1.5 kg of heroin seized

Colombo (News 1st);  Sri Lanka Police launched a special operation to crack down on criminal activity across the country, with the assistance of the Police Special Task Force.

In the past 24 hours, Sri Lanka Police arrested 08 people for links with criminal gangs.

Mathugama arrests :

Two suspects were arrested by the Police Special Task Force for the possession of a sword and machete, for the intention of committing a crime.

Hanwella arrests :

The Police Special Task Force arrested three suspects including a close confidante of an underworld figure known as Indunil Kumara alias ‘Indra’ in connection with a number of organized crimes.

The Defence Ministry said the raid was conducted by the STF’s Organized Crime Prevention Unit at Embulgama in Hanwella.

One person among the suspects has been identified as Thanippuli Arachchige Dasun Buddhika Jayathilaka alias ‘Akku’, an underworld figure.

A fake pistol, three swords, a dagger, and 325 grams of Kerala cannabis were found in the possession of the suspects.

Ratmalana arrest :

Sri Lanka Police arrested a 38-year-old male for possession of 07 grams of heroin.

Rambukkana arrests :

Two suspects including a woman were arrested for possession of 1.527 kg of heroin on Sunday (June 21).

The suspects were arrested near the Kegalle-Rambukkana railway crossing by the Kegalle Police Organized Crimes Prevention Division.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Police Media Spokesman, SSP Jaliya Senarathne said, the operation will be supervised by the Senior DIG in charge of the Western province, Deshabandu Tennekoon, and the Special Task Force will be led by DIG Waruna Jayasundara, Commandant of the STF.
