COLOMBO (News1st): The Department of Molecular Science and Biochemistry, at the University of Colombo, has designed a new testing kit to identify COVID-19 patients.
Professor Ranil Dassanayake, who led the team which designed the kit, said the product costs only one-third of the value of the imported testing kits used to identify coronavirus cases.
The current testing kit costs Rs 300,000.
Prof. Dissanayake stated the molecular lab in which this kit was created, had been previously used for genetic extractions to identify Dengue, Influenza and HIV AIDS.
The development of the molecular lab had begun in 2010
