You can't take the country forward without the support of the parliament: Maithripala Sirisena

COLOMBO (News1st) Former President Maithripala Sirisena addressed a group of party supporters in Pulasthipura, Polonnaruwa last afternoon. The former President noted that even a President with the powers of a king, cannot take the country forward without the support of Parliament. While stating that he faced the same issue in 2015, Sirisena noted that he was able to work because he took over leadership of the SLFP and received the assistance of then Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. Sirisena emphasized that the country cannot move forward with the President and the Prime Minister standing on different sides, acknowledging that it was not a secret that there were many issued between him and then PM Ranil Wickremesinghe.
