COLOMBO (News 1st) – Foreign media has reported that Gopal Bagley is slated to be appointed as Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
Mr Bagley is currently a Joint Secretary dealing with Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran at the Ministry of External Affairs.
He was the Deputy High Commissioner, High Commission of India to Islamabad from 2011 to 2014 and several other diplomatic posts.
However, speaking to News 1st a spokesperson for the Indian High Commission said that the Indian Government has not confirmed any appointment and added that these are media reports.
The report comes after Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a veteran of India-US ties, was reportedly named as Indian ambassador to Washington DC, succeeding Harsh Vardhan Shringla.
